USN 37J1 Flying Jacket:

Presenting a detailed, high quality reproduction of  the US Navy's first leather flight jacket. This reproduction is an excellent example of the rare 1920's flight jacket. Great care was taken to get the small details correct, like the two piece sleeves, two panel back, double top stitch lined pockets with angled flaps, reinforced snaps on the collar, Antique style horn buttons, simulated ivory inner buttons, and the exact reproduction of the label down to the font size changes & thread color. The original jackets were made from Capeskin leather as well as other kinds of soft, thin goat skin called "Glove leather". Both types of hides are available for order. The jacket pictured is made from 2.5oz Seal Brown Color Capeskin. It has the look and drape of the original hides used.

Presenting an exact reproduction of the US Navy's M-422a Flight Jacket. The jacket was introduced in October 1943 as a updated version of the M-422 and went on to serve as the intermediate weather flight jacket for the USN and USMC airmen. It became the most issued USN intermediate flight jacket in the WWII effort. This jacket is a reproduction of the M-422a made by Willis & Gieger Inc., a major supplier of USN Flight Jackets during WWII.

Presenting a detailed reproduction of the AN-J-3 Flight Jacket. The AN-J-3 was designed in 1943 by the US Army Air Forces. The jacket was intended to be a replacement for the Army Air Forces A-2 & USN M-422 jackets. The Jacket borrowed design elements from each type of jacket and was planned to be issued to both services. The "AN" meant it was for both Army and the Navy use, the "J" specifies it as a jacket, and "3" designates it as the third jacket developed under the joint services equipment program.

The design was an interesting combination of the A-2 and the M-422 jackets. It had the Gusseted back found on the USN jackets which allowed more freedom of movement. The rib-rack waistband, cuffs, and the dark seal goatskin hide were also carried over from the USN jackets. The leather collar, storm flap, and epaulets were taken from the USAAF A-2 design, minus the throat hook & latch and collar snaps. There were slight variations in the design as well, with some having no epaulets and an inside storm flap similar to the USN M-422.

Approximately 2,000 AN-J-3's were contracted and manufactured mostly by Willis & Geiger, but the design was short lived and both services dropped the jacket in favor of different designs shortly after delivery. The jacket did not see widespread combat use, but some photographic evidence suggests that a few were worn in combat. Willis & Gieger went on to sell some additional jackets to the commercial retail market under the label Abercrombie & Fitch.

AN-J-3 Flight Jacket

Presenting a rare and unique reproduction of a WWII German flight jacket. The Luftwaffe had a few different types of flight jackets during the war, as well as private purchase jackets that were worn by the pilots and aircrew. This jacket is a reproduction of the "Marseille" style jacket seen in historical photos like the one above, worn by the legendary German fighter pilot Ace H.J. Marseille.
